A
Marisa Alicea is a member of the SNL Resident Faculty and Director of SNL Programs for O’Hare Campus. She earned a Ph.D. in Sociology from Northwestern University and writes and teaches about issues related to U.S. Latinos.

Marjorie Altergott is a life-long resident of Chicago with a deep interest in the well-being of its communities. She holds a Master’s degree in Social Science and Doctorate in Public Health. She is co-convener of H.O.P.E., an organization offering health promotion in communities through popular education, and a Research Associate with the School of Public Health at the University of Illinois, Chicago.

Susan Alvarado received her JD from DePaul University, College of Law, and earned her BA degree from SNL. She currently sits on the Labor and Employment Law Committee of the Chicago Bar Association.

Enrique Alberto Arias is a member of the SNL Resident Faculty, musicologist and pianist. He has a Ph.D. in Music Literature and History from Northwestern University. He is a specialist in Hispanic music and has given numerous lectures and concerts on this subject. Recent publications include: Comedy in Music: An Historical-Bibliographic Guide (Greenwood Press, 2000) and Essays in Honor of John F. Ohl: A Compendium of American Musicology (Northwestern University Press, 2001). He is president of Ars Musica Chicago, a musical orgnaization devoted to music of the 12th through the 18th centuries.

Keith Armstrong holds an Arts/Interdisciplinary M.A. from Harvard University and a Doctorate in adult and continuing education from Northern Illinois University. He has been involved in community development, education and the arts for many years. Two of his recent publications are: Oppressions Based on Race: Black and Latino/a Autobiographical Responses in a Participatory Group and Visual Pathways to the Inner Self. He is a member of the SNL Resident Faculty. He curates an annual photographic exhibit of SNL-student photographs, and is Faculty Advisor to the SNL Student Association, and Faculty Advisor to the DePaul Rugby team.

Ramiro J. Atristaín-Carrión is Senior Vice President at Capri Capital where he directs the Asset and Portfolio Management for the firm. He serves as Investment Advisor to an endowment fund in Chicago and as a Trustee for the Board of Grant Hospital. e is the Chairman of the Board of the National Society of Hispanic MBAs (NSHMBA), and a member of the National Association for Business Economics, and the American Society of Association Executives. He holds a Master of Business Administration degree with specialization in Finance and Information Management from the Illinois Institute of Technology.

Anghesom Atsbaha was born and raised in Eritrea, Africa. He studied at the University of Asmara, Africa and received his Master of Arts degree through SNL. He is a contributing editor of AFRIQUE magazine, a Chicago-based African and African-American newspaper, and a member of the city's Advisory Council on African Affairs.

Shelly Auslander earned an M.S.W. from the Jane Addams Graduate School of Social Work, University of Illinois-Chicago, and a Master’s degree in Jewish Education and Administration from the University of Illinois and Spertus College of Judaica. She is a school social worker in Wilmette and teaches in synagogues throughout the area. She has lectured on parenting skills, raising children in the ‘90s, and communicating with your children.

B
Ewing Eugene Baldwin is a published playwright and short story writer as well as a trained classical musician. He received a $5,000 1999 Illinois Arts Council Fellowship in Prose, for his short story, Watchers. The story is the tenth chapter from Baldwin’s first novel, Nothing Ever Happens, which also served as his Master Work in the SNL graduate program. Gene received his M.A. through SNL in 1998.

Jim Barron teaches courses in the historical foundations of the arts, world religions, and world literature at the Chicago Academy for the Arts. He holds M.Div and S.T.L. degrees in theology, and M.A. degrees both in Biblical and Comparative literature. He is currently completing his Ph.D. in Comparative literature at the University of Chicago. His interests are in aesthetics, culture criticism, Polish, Soviet and American literature, in addition to his interest in theological and biblical studies.

Steve Bell is Managing Director of CB Richard Ellis, an international real estate firm, and has more than 25 years of management experience with major corporations. He holds an M.B.A. from Cornell University and has also received degrees in engineering and architecture.

Corinne Lally Benedetto holds a Ph.D. in sociology from the University of Chicago. Her research interests lie in human development and integrative cultural studies. She is a Resident Faculty Member and currently serves as the Undergraduate Program Director for the Naperville Campus.

Ellen Benjamin is an SNL Resident Faculty member who earned her Masters of Social Work from The University of Michigan and her Ph.D. in Social Work from The University of Chicago. For more than two decades she has been involved in advocacy work on social causes, has served as an employee and Trustee of nonprofit organizations and directed philanthropic institutions within Chicago.

Miriam Ben-Yoseph is a member of the SNL Resident Faculty and Associate Dean, Administration. She teaches courses in intercultural communication, global organization development and women in international contexts. She conducts research on women in management and women entrepreneurs across cultures and more recently on the future of work. Originally from Romania, she received her B.A. and M.A. from Hebrew University of Jerusalem and Ph.D. from Northwestern University.

Barbara Berchiolli has a M.S. in Natural Science from the University of Rome, Italy where she also completed a 2 year research project in botany. She has a MA in Education from California State University and has served as a teacher leader for the National Science Foundation, Advances in Biological Science Program. She is currently a biology instructor at Prairie State College.

James Bloch is the Athletic Director at Glenbrook North High School. He is past president of the Illinois Athletic Directors Association. He holds an M.A. in Secondary School Administration.

Nadine Bopp has a Master’s in Landscape Architecture from Louisiana State University and a Master of Science in Parks and Recreation Administration from the University of Missouri. She is an Environmental Planner with the Forest Preserve District of Cook County and landscape design consultant. She is also an adjunct faculty member of the School of the Art Institute and Columbia College.

Kevin Buckley has a Master of Liberal Studies degree from DePaul University where his research addressed the role of institutions in mediating between the individual and society. He has more than twenty years experience in project management and in planning and conducting training programs for adults in both for-profit and non-profit settings.

Sheryl Buske received her J.D. in 1996 and currently teaches at a Texas law school. Prior to teaching full-time, she was Regional Counsel for the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services at Cook County Juvenile Court where she represented the interests of the legal guardian of abused and neglected children.

William Byrnes, M.Div., is a certified Employee Assistance professional and former family therapist who has worked in a variety of EAP environments, and is currently a Regional EAP Representative with United Airlines.

C
Angeline Canella
is an SNL advisor. She is actively involved in instructional support to a Senior group program in creative writing; in addition, she coaches groups and individuals in developing their abilities in active listening, parenting and coping skills. She earned her BA through SNL and a Master's degree in Community and Family Counseling from Northeastern Illinois University.

Mary Cannon earned a Bachelor’s in Literature and History at Mundelein College and completed the Master’s degree in English at the University of Illinois.

Frank Cervone is Assistant Director for Systems at the DePaul University Libraries. He earned an M.A. through SNL with an area of study in Information System Management. He has worked in information systems for more than 15 years and has written 3 books. In addition to graduate work in Linguistics at Northeastern Illinois University, he is pursuing a doctorate in Information Science.

Alan B. Cohen holds a B.S. in Nuclear Engineering from North Carolina State University and a M.S. in Photography from the Illinois Institute of Technology. He is an active working artist and is teaching at the School of the Art Institute.

Alan D. Cohen was Chief Financial Officer and Vice President of Finance and Administration for W. Braun Company for more than 20 years. He is presently a consultant to companies on qualified plans, sale of companies and other financial matters. He earned an M.B.A. from Loyola University, and is a Certified Financial Planner.


Ludovic Comeau Jr. is a member of the resident faculty. He holds a Ph.D. in business economics, an MBA in finance and an MA in economics from the University of Illinois at Chicago, and a Bachelor in business administration and a Law degree from the State University of Haiti. Prior to joining SNL, Dr. Comeau held the position of Director of Money and Economic Analysis (Chief Economist) at the Central Bank of Haiti. In addition, he has taught various business and economic courses in the U.S. and in Haiti. He was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to complete graduate work in the U.S. He received the Oscar Miller Award for Teaching Excellence and the Winifred Geldard Award for Outstanding Commitment to Excellence in Education from UIC. He has presented his research to numerous professional and economic associations. He currently focuses on developing business-oriented economic courses and serves as champion of quantitative reasoning at SNL.

Mary Cross earned an M.F.A. in Creative Writing from the Iowa Writers’ Workshop at the University of Iowa. Her poetry and creative nonfiction have appeared in literary magazines and on public radio. Her book of poems received The Journal Award from Ohio State University Press. Mary also teaches memoir and fiction writing at Northwestern’s University College.

Joseph Cunniff writes on music and theater in Chicago and is an actor. He has led tours and classes at the Art Institute for more than ten years. He writes regularly on art, music, and theater in Chicago, and has made six art study trips to Europe. He earned a Master’s degree of Education in Fine Arts and Interdisciplinary Learning from Loyola University.

Joan Curtin holds an M.A. in English from Northern Illinois University. She has written for newspapers and taught writing and communication skills at several area colleges. She also owns and manages her own business.

D
Nancy Davis
received a Ph.D. and M.A. in History at the University of Michigan. She has lectured at Governors State and U.I.C. Her primary areas of interest are modern urban history and 19th century American history. She presently serves as Assistant Director of the North Lawndale Learning Community.

Michael DeAngelis has two Master of Arts degrees in Literature from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and a Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin in Radio-Television-Film, Critical & Cultural Studies. He has taught at SNL since 1989. He recently published an article on Roller Coaster technology and postmodernism, and he is working on a cultural history of film exhibition in the Chicago Loop from the 1940s to the present. He is a member of the SNL Resident Faculty and Director, Undergraduate Program, Loop Campus.

Mary Jane Dix is Assistant Dean for Administration and Student Services for SNL. She earned her undergraduate degree at SNL and her Master’s in Pastoral Studies from Loyola University of Chicago. She lectures and gives retreats in the area of marriage and family, and on spirituality.

Barbara Donnelley earned a Doctor of Ministry degree from the University of St. Mary of the Lake and a Master of Religious Studies from Mundelein College. She is a graduate of SNL. She has worked in the Archdiocese for more than 30 years and is presently doing free-lance work in spirituality, theology and discernment.

Anne B. Donnersberger, whose doctorate is in medical/allied health education, is the head of the Biology Department and Professor of Anatomy and Physiology at Moraine Valley Community College. She has authored numerous texts, manuals, and articles on anatomy and physiology and has served as a consultant in the development of curriculum in the area of biology and allied health topics. She has also worked in the field of teacher preparation, is Coordinator of Education at Moraine Valley College and supervisor of student teachers for Northern Illinois University.

Kevin Downing is a member of SNL’s Resident Faculty. He holds Bachelor’s degrees in Astronomy and Geology from the University of Illinois at Urbana, a Master’s degree in Geology and Education from the University of Florida, and a Ph.D. in Geoscience and Evolutionary Biology from the University of Arizona. He is currently researching mammalian evolutionary and diversity patterns expressed in the fossil records of the Western U.S., East Africa, and Indonesia.

Susanne Dumbleton is a member of the Resident Faculty and Dean of the School for New Learning. She earned an M.A. and Ph.D. in Literature and has read broadly in the literature of war in the 20th century.

William Dumbleton has a Ph.D. from University of Pennsylvania, and an M.A. in Anglo-English Literature from University College, Dublin, Ireland. He has previously taught a variety of literature courses at the State University of New York at Albany.

Denise Eaves
, L.C.S.W., C.E.A.P., is a licensed Clinical Social Worker and certified Employee Assistance professional. She sits on the Board of Directors of the Employee Assistance Professional Association and is chair of EAPA’s Membership Committee. She is the Coordinator of the Employee Assistance Program at Northwestern Behavioral Health. She earned her undergraduate degree at University of Louisville and her Master’s at University of Chicago. She has more than 15 years experience in the fields of addictions and expertise in stress and change management.

Mark Enenbach is in his 14th year as a member of the SNL visiting faculty. He is a former faculty member of Governor’s State University and has held numerous administrative and planning positions with the City of Chicago. Currently, he is Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for The Community Economic Development Association. He received his M.A. in Urban Planning from Loyola University.

Doug Erickson is a member of technical staff at Lucent Technologies where he is responsible for the introduction of new networking products. He received degrees in Psychology and Electrical Engineering at the University of Illinois and has taught at the City Colleges of Chicago.

F
Rev. Dirk Ficca
serves as Director of the Metropolitan Chicago Interreligious Initiative of the Council for a Parliament of the World’s Religions. He is an ordained Presbyterian minister and a graduate of the University of Iowa and McCormick Theological Seminary. He is currently working on a book on religion, spirituality and culture.

Morris Fiddler is a member of the SNL Resident Faculty. He earned a Ph.D. in Human Genetics at the University of Minnesota and is as interested in how adults learn as he is in how their genes work. He has worked with SNL students for more than twelve years and is fascinated by the possibilities of computer-mediated distance learning. He was recently promoted to Professor.

Susan Field holds a BA in English from the University of Illinois at Champaign and an MS in education from Northern Illinois University. She is an accomplished poet, playwright and writer of educational research and curriculum. She is Co-Director of Arts of the Beacon Street Gallery and Theatre at Truman College in Chicago.

Peter Forster has directed over 40 theatrical productions in the USA and the UK. In London, as Founder and Artistic Director of the Off Limits Theatre Company, his productions included David Mamet's Sexual Perversity in Chicago. In Chicago, he directed the American premiere of Mike Stott's The Fancy Man and Gardner McKay's Sea Marks (both Jeff-nominated) at the Royal-George, and R. W. Fassbinder's The Bitter Tears of Petra Von Kant at the Body Politic. He has directed Shakespeare's plays at several colleges and universities in the Midwest. He is the Resident Director of Theatre Development at the Chicago Centre for the Performing Arts and a teacher at the Chicago Training Centre.

James Frank has worked as an educator for more than 35 years in the capacity of counselor and instructor on the junior high, secondary and collegiate levels. He has a doctorate in higher education, a master's degree in counseling and a B.A. in psychology and sociology. He founded, coordinates, and teaches in the College of DuPage's Native American Studies Program.

Nancy Freehafer directed DePaul’s Writing Center and developmental reading and writing programs for fifteen years. In addition to teaching at SNL, she now edits a women’s nature writing journal. She is also a freelance writer and an ecological restorationist.

Carol Friedman holds a Master’s degree from the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology and is a certified alcoholism and drug counselor and certified Employee Assistance professional. For more than 20 years Carol has been helping people discover how to be happy, healthy, and whole in a variety of settings, including corporate Employee Assistance counselor and consultant, director of an integrated behavioral health treatment program, and director of her own psycho-spiritually based fitness and counseling practice. She has been a member of the SNL visiting faculty for more than 10 years.

Stuart Friedman received a Master in Business Administration from Loyola University of Chicago, and a BA, in Chemistry/Finance from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. His career includes diverse business experiences as systems programmer, analyst, manager, tax manager, Human Resources director. He's led start-ups of eight distribution centers throughout the country and as a lead in the start-up of a $200 million division. More recently, he began a consulting practice which evaluates current performance levels and then provides training and coaching to teams and individuals.

G
Luis Galarza
has worked in the areas of instructional technology and communication for university and corporate training. He holds a doctoral degree in education from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. His
areas of interest and research include distance education, technology, and the use of media for education purposes. Before coming to DePaul, he worked as a special assistant for training at Cemex Corporation. He is an associate of Organization Deployment Network, where he serves as a consultant for training and technology.

Mike Garber is Director of Training and Development at USG Corporation and is a doctoral candidate at Illinois Wesleyan University.

Jane Gerard earned her undergraduate degree in music at Fontbonne College in St. Louis and her graduate degree at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh; in addition she has done graduate work at the University of Chicago, Loyola University of Chicago, Jesuit School of Theology, and DeAndreis Institute of Theology.

Jo Ann Gesiakowska works for a suburban high school. She earned a Master’s in Management from Northwestern University and an MA in History from DePaul University.

Renee Gilbert-Levin is a member of SNL's Resident Faculty. She has been with SNL for more than 16 years, with experience in its BA and MA programs. Her background is interdisciplinary and includes graduate work in Comparative Literature and Writing as well as in cognition and learning. Her doctoral work at Northwestern University focused on metacognition and learning strategies in the adult learner. She is currently Resident Faculty Coordinator of Writing and Critical Thinking at SNL.

Gregory Gilmore has more than 20 years experience as CEO and consultant to various community organizations. Working in concert with community leaders, he has played an instrumental role in planning, developing and managing cultural institutions in Illinois and New York. He is a landscape designer and principal of Gilmore Landscape Design.

Philip Gisi has over 15 years experience in the automotive, commercial and aerospace industries. His areas of expertise include new product development, process technology, material technology, quality management and automotive electronics. He has worked in multi-cultural environments and is currently working to effectively implement and improve the disciplines of Project Management in automotive electronics. Phil earned a Masters of Science in Engineering for Ohio State University.

Toby Glicken earned a BS and a Doctorate in Pharmacy from the University of Illinois, and MS in Biology from Northeastern Illinois University (UNI). She has taught various courses at UNI, and at both Evanston and Ravenswood Hospitals' Schools of Nursing, and has had clinical experience in the areas of General Medicine, Infectious Disease, Drug Information and Psychiatry.

Frank Gnagni is the Chair of the Media and Technology Department for Evanston Township High School District 202. He received his Master’s in Curriculum and Instruction from National Louis University. He has done post-graduate study in radiochemistry and computer science, and is currently enrolled in DePaul‘s Graduate Program in Educational Leadership.

Barbara Golden earned her Masters Degree in Organization Development at Loyola University in 1985. She founded a technology company with the goal of creating a self-perpetuating organization that embodied a vision so compelling and so alive that people would know what to do and could make wise decisions independently without wasted effort. Though she is not involved in its operation today, the company continues to prosper. She has been teaching and consulting since 1997 to companies and universities seeking expertise in bringing understanding, coherence, and educational programs to their corporate operations.

Simon Greenwold received his Ph.D. from Northwestern University in 2001. He has taught and done extensive research in the areas of Slavic languages, literatures, and cultures.

H
Richard Halverson
is completing his doctorate at Northwestern University where he also earned an M.A. in philosophy. He has significant teaching experience in philosophy and social studies, and is a consultant to the Chicago public school system.

Mechthild Hart earned her Ph.D. in Adult Education from Indiana University. She has taught and written about work and education, with an emphasis on the unpaid work of raising children and how this work relates to sexual, racial, cultural and economic inequalities.

Russell Hartigan is the Managing Partner of the law firm of Hartigan & Cuisinier PC, specializing in the defense of civil cases, including torts, civil rights and employment discrimination. He is a graduate of John Marshall Law School. He also holds an M.B.A. from DePaul University. He has tried more than 60 jury trials in areas including general litigation, municipality liability, workmen's compensation, and other civil trial law He is an elected member of the Illinois Board of Governors, the managing body for Illinois attorneys.

Jack Hartley is an independent consultant and trainer who develops and facilitates various management and supervisory training programs that stress coaching, communication and team-building. He is able to utilize the significant knowledge and experience gained from more than 20 years in industry. He holds an Industrial Engineering degree from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and an MBA from the University of Connecticut.

Naomi Hayes is an author and award-winning quiltmaker who learned the craft from a former slave. Her expertise is in traditional pieced quilts.

John Hemmerling is Coordinator for the Naperville and South Campuses and an SNL Academic Advisor. He is a member of the visiting faculty.

William Henning is a human resource professional with 32 years HRM experience in management and 13 years in teaching.

Susan Herr is a Senior Program Officer at the Chicago Community Trust and Director of that foundation’s Children, Youth and Families Initiative. This ten-year, $30 million philanthropic effort was created to promote positive change in seven of Chicago’s most marginalized communities. A former inner-city high school English teacher, she holds a B.A. from the University of Texas at San Antonio and an M.A. from DePaul University.

William Hickey is a former contributing editor for the Columbia Review and the winner of the 1997 Ola De Etta Good Award in Creative Writing. He holds a B.A. and a Master of Science degree in English from Illinois State University.

Timothy Hill has been teaching at SNL since 1981, is former Associate Publisher of Inland Architect and works for the University of Chicago Press. He received his M.A. in Urban Planning from the University of Michigan.

Brian Hinrichs has taught at DePaul, Illinois State University, and Illinois Wesleyan University. His ten years of experience is complemented by academic training at Illinois State University, where he earned his B.S., M.B.A., and Ph.D. in various fields of business administration. He is also an active researcher, consultant, and presenter with an emphasis on putting theory into practical use. His interests center on leadership and the use of teams, and most recently he has designed courses in these areas for distance learners via the Internet.

Lynn Holaday earned her B.A. in Political Science from the University of Michigan, her M.A. in Communication and Rhetoric from Prescott College, and her J.D. from George Washington University. She also received a Ph.D. from the Union Institute. She has practiced law and mediation, taught business law and composition, and served in numerous community organizations.

Deborah W. Holton received her undergraduate degree in Theatre and Drama with emphasis in playwriting from Howard University, and earned her doctorate in American Theatre Studies from the University of Wisconsin in Madison, with a joint minor in African American and Art Histories. She holds a Masters in English, with emphasis in African American and African literature from Atlanta University. She has written about playwrights Lorraine Hansberry and Eugene O'Neill, and about the African American experience and culture within the African diaspora. A world-traveling fiction writer and poet herself, Dr. Holton is a resident faculty member at SNL.

J
Tranita Jackson
received her undergraduate degree from Northern Illinois University in Elementary Education and her Master's degree from National Louis University in Curriculum and Instruction. She has taught children in elementary, and middle school grades in the Villa Park school district for 29 years. She has significant experience with the behavioral process of different aged children, and with many different techniques to help them develop appropriate societal behaviors.

William P. Johnston, Ph.D., a Chicago-based video professional, began his career in the entertainment broadcast industry, and later created studios dedicated to education and training in the corporate world.

K
Satish Kale received his MBA in Finance and Marketing from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management, Northwestern University, a MSME and a MSIE from the Illinois Institute of Technology and a BSME from the University of Bombay. He has taught at Roosevelt University, Governor State University, Illinois Institute of Technology and Purdue University. He is currently employed in the engineering field.

Robert Kallen has provided expertise to small and growing companies in the food industry for over 14 years. He served for ten years as the Vice President of Operations and General Counsel of Bake-Line Products. Prior to joining Bake-Line, he was a staff attorney at the Federal Trade Commission in Washington, D.C. Mr. Kallen received his Juris Doctor and Masters in Economics degrees from Washington University in St. Louis, Mo. and a B.A. in History from the University of Illinois.

H.E. Mr. Ahmad Kamal, Ambassador and Plenipotentiary Permanent Representative of Pakistan to the United Nations, is a leading world expert on international institutions, international trade, human rights and disarmament.

John Kimsey received his Ph.D. in English from the University of Illinois and is a member of the SNL resident faculty. He teaches and writes about modern literature and popular culture and has also worked as a professional musician.

Thomas E. Klocek is a specialist in the Slavic languages, translator for print and visual media, and is completing a doctorate in History of Culture at the University of Chicago. He heads a consultation group which prepares American business persons for work abroad, and is Managing Director of JGC, an import-export firm specializing in Eastern Europe and Russia.

Jean Knoll earned a Ph.D. in History from the University of Chicago. She is a Senior Fellow at SNL. She teaches American women’s history, and is experienced in the application of RPBL to medical school, business school, and corporate settings. She has taught the history of American women for nearly 16 years and is a novice quilter.

Gary Kohn, M.D., is a Board-Certified Specialist in Occupational Medicine and Aerospace Medicine. He is the Corporate Medical Director for United Airlines. His special areas of interest are substance abuse and health care administration.

Anthony Kopera received his Ph.D. from Loyola University in Psychology. He taught at Northeastern Illinois University and is President and CEO of the Community Counseling Centers of Chicago.

John F. Kordek, a former U.S. Ambassador and career foreign service officer, is Director of International Programs and Government Relations at DePaul University. He was appointed by President Clinton to the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Council, which oversees the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum and U.S. Holocaust Research Institute. He also was a member of two presidential delegations commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising and the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau. He earned a Ph.B. from DePaul, an M.A. from Johns Hopkins University.

Phyllis Kozlowski, Ph.D., serves as Chair of the Fine Arts and Humanities department at Moraine Valley Community College where she teaches both art history and studio courses. She is past president of the Illinois Art Education Association and Vice President of the National Art Education Association. She is a volunteer docent with several organizations in Chicago and gives architecture tours of the city. She also exhibits professionally as an artist. Her work is in a number of corporate collections.

Barbara Kraemer, OSF, holds a Ph.D. in Public Policy Analysis and Master’s degrees in Economics and Education. She has taught adults in Central America, Mexico and the US. Her areas of study include integral human development, Catholic social teaching, economic and social conditions in Honduras and low-cost housing in Costa Rica. Currently, she is Director of the Center for the Study of Religious Life at Catholic Theological Union.

Maureen Kreuser has been in private health care practice since 1984. She received her Doctor of Chiropractic degree from National College of Chiropractic, Doctor of Naprapathy degree from Chicago National College of Naprapathy, Certified Acupuncture Therapist from Midwest Center for the Study of Oriental Medicine and a B.S. in Biology from Mundelein College.

Rick Kuner, AICP, is President of New Alternatives, Inc., a private consulting company practicing in the areas of transportation planning, city planning, and computers. He has a Master’s in City Planning from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He is an experienced microcomputer programmer and user.

Jay Kurtz received his B.A. with a focus in business technology and communications through SNL and MA in Speech Communication from Northeastern Illinois University. He has extensive experience teaching mediated communication techniques to a diverse audience. He is a Manager of MIS Operations at Central States Health and Welfare and Pension Funds. He is a Vietnam Veteran and has taught at Cook County Jail. Jay is also a certified Para Chaplain with the Chicago Board of Rabbis and has an alternative prison ministry with the Federal Bureau of Prisons at the Metropolitan Correctional Center, Chicago.

Carol LaChapelle
, M.A., is a Chicago-based writer and teacher. She has taught both academic and continuing education seminars in nature writing at DePaul University, the University of Illinois/Chicago, The Newberry Library, the Field Museum of Natural History, and the Chicago Botanic Garden. She is a member of the Association for the Study of Literature & Environment.

Margaret Lanterman earned a Master of Fine Arts degree at the University of Illinois. She has taught art at Triton College, the University of Illinois, and the Art Institute of Chicago. She is a practicing artist with a national and international exhibition record. In Chicago, her work is represented by the Roy Boyd Gallery.

Yirser Ra Hotep (Elvrid Lawrence) has more than 20 years of experience as a stress management and wellness consultant, Yoga instructor and social worker. He has a Master’s degree in Social Service Administration from the University of Chicago and has produced instructional videotapes on Kemetic (ancient Egyptian style) Yoga.

Timothy Lenzi is an investigator for the Drug Enforcement Agency. In that role, Tim trains other investigators, investigates violations, and works with other state, federal, and local agencies. He holds an M.A. in history from Northeastern Illinois University and a B.A. in history and political science from Cardinal Stritch University.

David Levin is Director of Distance Learning at DePaul and a faculty member at the School for New Learning. He has taught courses in philosophy, ethics, and computer science for fifteen years. He also has five years experience providing computer consulting services for non-profit organizations.

Joseph Liang received a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from the East China Textile Institute of Science & Technology, and a. Master of Divinity degree from Chicago Theological Seminary. He is an Associate Pastor at Christ Church of Des Plaines, United Church of Christ. He studied Chinese literature, painting and calligraphy under private instructors in China.

Roberta Liebler has a Ph.D. in Education from Walden University, an M.A. in Psychoeducational Disabilities from New York University, and an M.A. in English Education from the City Colleges of the City University of New York. She has extensive experience in higher education administration and teaching and in non-profit management. Currently, she is Director of the Center for Continuing Professional Education and Organizational Effectiveness at Aurora University.

Jose Llanes is Professor of Organization and Leadership at the University of Texas Pan American. He is poised to lead a new program in International Cross-Cultural Organization and Leadership. He was formerly a COO in charge of the International Division of a publicly held company and also the founder of the International Multicultural Education doctorate at the University of San Francisco. Dr. Llanes has a dozen years of experience consulting in organization and leadership issues with companies around the world.

Thomas E. Long is an Associate Partner with Andersen Consulting, currently assigned to the Education Division. His career has been focused on computer software and systems both as a developer of application and commercial software and as a management consultant specializing in strategic information systems planning and change management. He holds degrees in English, Linguistics and Computer Science.

Betta LoSardo holds an A.M. from Middlebury College in Italian Studies. She has also studied at the Universita’ di Firenze, and at the Angelicum University in Rome. She is a member of the SNL Resident Faculty and Director, Suburban Programs, South Campus.

Robert Ludwig is Director of University Ministry at DePaul. His training is in Christian Theology but he has been involved in the study of world religions, particularly Buddhism and Native American spiritualities. He earned a Ph.D. in Theology from Aquinas Institute of Theology in St. Louis.

Harvey T. Lyon is a Management Consultant specializing in corporate strategy issues. He has been president of two publicly traded manufacturing companies. He holds an A.B. (mcl) in American History and Literature and M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in English Language and Literature, all from Harvard.

Brent J. Malleck
is Vice President of Human Resources for St. Francis Hospital and Health Center in Blue Island. He holds a B.S. in Personnel Management from Michigan State University, and an M.B.A. from Edgewood College. He has more than 12 years experience in different industries in the field. He has witnessed a changing workplace and a shift in paradigm of how and why individual employees work.

Catherine Marienau is a member of the SNL Resident Faculty. She earned a Ph.D. in Adult Higher Education from the University of Minnesota. She writes, teaches and consults about issues in alternative education for adults and in women’s development.

Laura McFall has a BA in Behavioral Science, and MS in Management, both from National-Louis University. She works for Andersen Consulting LLP and has significant management experience in Fortune 200 companies. She has taught extensive at local colleges and universities.

Gene McGinnis is the founder and President of MindStream Inc. He delivers consultation and training for performance improvement, strategic planning, team building, tactical planning and decision-making in organizational settings. Gene holds a Master's degree from DePaul, and certification in facilitation, organizational development and process management.

Susan McGury is a member of the SNL Resident Faculty. She earned an M.A. in English Literature from the University of Illinois at Urbana. She received a Ph.D. in English Literature from the University of Reading, Berks, UK. Recent publications include articles on Bernini, on reconsiderations of scholarship in the Academy, and on using reflection as a tool for critical thinking.

Donald J. McKay has twenty years of international experience as educator and trainer with private industry, government, and higher education. He has lived and worked in Japan and Europe and traveled extensively to more than 20 countries on four continents. He holds a Ph.D. in history, an M.A. in linguistics, and is Principle of his private tutoring company, English Plus+.

Pamela Meyer is a professional speaker, consultant, trainer and theatre director. As President of Meyer Creativity Associates, Inc. Pamela Meyer works with organizations that want innovative solutions and teams that need to jump start creative collaboration. She received her B.F.A. in theatre from Boston University and an M.A. in Directing and Performance Development from Antioch University. She is a member of the National Speakers Association, Professional Speakers of Illinois, and Actors Equity Association. She is author of Quantum Creativity: Nine Principles for a Life of Possibility.

Victoria Meyer received her Master’s degree in Psychology from Roosevelt University and her Ph.D. in Community Health Education from Texas Woman's University. She is also a Registered Nurse. Her special areas of interest are sex-role socialization, sexuality, and the childbirth experience.

Dr. Lawrence Michaelis, a cardiothoracic surgeon who served as Senior Vice President for Medical Affairs and Chief Medical Officer of Northwestern Memorial Hospital, the primary teaching hospital of Northwestern University Medical School from 1989 to 2000.

Leo C. Miller, MA, CEAP, CRADC, is Director of Passages Employee Assistance Services of Catholic Health Partners. He is a certified Employee Assistance professional and certified Addictions Counselor. He is current President of the Northern Illinois chapter of the Employee Assistance Professional Association and a board member of the National Catholic Council on Alcoholism. He received his Master of Arts in Family and Community Counseling from Northeastern Illinois University.

Robert Mills is a consultant specializing in interpersonal, small group and corporate communication problem analysis. He holds a Ph.D. in Communication Studies from University of Michigan and an M.A. from Indiana University.

Cynthia R. Milsap has a Master of Science degree in Journalism from Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism, and is a doctoral candidate in Education at Northern Illinois University, where she is researching the role of the Black Church in leadership development. She is an Egan Community Scholar and coordinator, PRAG Black Church Research Project at DePaul’s Egan Center.

Colleen Minogue has taught at SNL since 1992. During this time, she has taught undergraduate courses in Reasoning, Writing, and Major Seminar, as well as a graduate seminar in Applied Research Methodology.

Michael Modica has taught mathematics at universities in this area, and received a Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of Chicago, in 1975. He is a member of the Chicago Board Options Exchange.

Terry P. Mollan is a Senior Partner with the management consulting form, Lehnen, Mollan & Associates. Their specialty is assisting manufacturers of technical and scientific products to better understand the American market and identify the best distribution channels. He is a graduate of DePaul University with twenty-five years experience in commercial and industrial marketing in North America and Europe and has co-authored papers and conducted professional seminars on this subject.

Patricia Monaghan is a member of the SNL Resident Faculty. She did her doctoral work on the intersection of quantum theory and poetics. An award-winning fiction writer, she is also a fervent gardener and the author of a new book on the mythology of gardens.

Jack Moran is a Judge of the Circuit Court of Cook County, assigned to a criminal felony trial court. Judge Moran earned his J.D. from Loyola University.

David earned his J.D. from Loyola University. He has an undergraduate and graduate background in English Literature. His current professional interests include teaching and writing in the areas of education, legal ethics, and finance.

William Muller received his Doctor of Arts degree in English Language and Literature from the University of Michigan. He is an English Professor and Department Chair of Developmental Education at Moraine Valley Community College. His current research interests focus on humor and its implications for teaching writing.

Doug Murphy is Assistant Dean for Information and Technology at SNL. His M.A. with a focus in academic strategic planning was earned through SNL.

is a nationally syndicated columnist who writes the "At Work" column that appears locally in the Chicago Tribune Business section. In the column, she offers sound and practical solutions to readers’ employment issues. She has worked as a career and workplace coach, and she is a recognized public speaker who has addressed various schools, businesses and community groups.

Thomas Nowak is a Principal Consultant at Keane, Inc. and a member of DePaul's visiting faculty for 13 years. He earned an MBA in Finance from DePaul and is a Certified Public Accountant , Certified Financial Planner , and Personal Financial Specialist.

Wade M. Nye is a graduate of Yale (Mandarin Chinese), Cornell (Extension Teaching) and Princeton (Theology). He has applied principles outlined in this course to create, market and operate various new enterprises. These include The Chinese Connection, a consulting firm which helped global corporations such as Motorola to improve business relations with the Chinese through cultural/language seminars he created and taught

Harvey Nystrom, M.A., M.S.W., graduated with a B.A. in Physics from Cornell University and an M.A. in Astronomy from the University of Chicago and an M.S.W. from Loyola University of Chicago. He is a professional member of the Astronomical Society of the Pacific, and the Planetary Society.

He holds a Master’s in Management from Kellogg Business School of Northwestern University and a B.S. in Industrial Engineering from Bradley University.

Eva Parucci
is the Academic Coordinator for Montessori Education Centers Associated. Her work involves parent education and the training and mentoring of new Montessori educators working with children from birth to age six. She has a Master’s degree in Community and Family Counseling from Northeastern Illinois University and is a Registered Music Therapist.

Rick G. Paszkiet is Executive Editor in the Books and Publishing Department of the American Bar Association. He earned a Master of Science in Journalism from the William Allen White School of Journalism at the University of Kansas.

Patricia Pelletier received her B.A. in Art Education from DePaul University and an M.F.A. from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She is Artistic Director of Fluid Measure Performance Company, and teaches Time Arts at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.

Aurie Pennick earned her J.D. at John Marshall Law School. Currently, she is President and CEO of the Leadership Council for Metropolitan Open Communities. Formerly she has worked for the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, was Executive Director for Citizens Alert, Inc., and founding director of Chicago Abused Women Coalition.

Christopher Pett has a B.A. in Psychology from Quincy College, a Master of Divinity from St. Mary's University, and a Masters in Religious Education and MSOD from Loyola University of Chicago His relevant prior professional experience includes serving as Manager, Management Development/Corporate Communications, Interstate National Corporation (subsidiary of Fireman's Fund Insurance Companies), Manager, Organization Development at Motorola, Inc., and currently as Senior Manager, OD, The Quaker Oats Company. Dan Perreten is a freelance writer and Researcher for The Park Ridge Center, a medical ethics think tank. He also designs Web sites and dabbles in computer consulting. He has taught English as a second language and writing at DePaul since 1993. He has an M.A. in theological ethics from the University of Chicago and has written on medical ethics.

Ulwyn L. J. Pierre, Ph.D., is Principal and CEO of Pierre and Associates, Inc., a human resources consulting firm. Her Doctorate in Human Resource Management and Organizational Development, Master’s degree in Educational Administration, and M.B.A. are from Columbia University. Her Bachelor’s of Education degree in Mathematics is from the University of Toronto, Canada, and Bachelor’s degree in Statistics and Applied Mathematics is from the University of Guelph, Canada.

Julian Posada received his MBA in Marketing and Management from the Kellogg Graduate School of Business at Northwestern University. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Food Systems, Economics, and Management from Michigan State University. He has worked for several start-up organizations ranging from Internet to non-profit start-ups. He has also worked for Citibank, and he has served on several local and international non-profit boards.

Cecelia Radlowski
earned a Ph.D. in Inorganic Chemistry from the University of Illinois at Chicago and completed post-doctoral work at Kent State University. She is currently a Staff Research Scientist.

Pervez Rahaman is an Associate Professor of Mathematics at the City Colleges of Chicago. He is also an Adjunct Professor in the Mathematics Department at DePaul University. Before becoming an academic, he worked in industry for six years. A major part of that time was spent working under a contract for NASA. His current passion is the stock market where he uses his own mathematical model for investing.

Anne Rapp is the Service Learning Coordinator at SNL. She is a doctoral candidate in U.S. History at the University of California, Santa Barbara. Her dissertation is titled: Four Women for Social Justice: Race, Gender, and American Politics, 1940-1980". Her research interests include the history of social activism in the US, including the feminist and civil rights movements, as well as the history of poverty and public policy.

Susan Reed is a member of the SNL Resident Faculty and earned her Ph.D. from Northwestern University. She taught urban policy in Chicago for many years, and published books and articles about urban mental health and long-term care policies. She is a member of Illinois' Medicaid Advisory Committee.

Kimberly Richardson is pursuing a doctorate in Urban Planning and Public Affairs from the University of Illinois at Chicago. She is executive director of a non-profit community-based organization which provides technical assistance to retail and industrial businesses on Chicago’s west side. She has been involved for more than 10 years in applied research which focuses on economic development in low-income communities.

Jean Richine is an SNL Academic Advisor who is pursuing her Ph.D. at the University of Illinois at Chicago. She is a member of the SNL visiting faculty.

Marilyn Rochon is a consultant in interpersonal skills training. She holds an M.A. in Counseling Psychology from the Alfred Adler Institute in Chicago, and is a psychotherapist in private practice.

Rich Rossiter is a spiritual director, author, retreat leader and pastor of Holy Covenant Metropolitan Community Church in Hinsdale, IL. He has a Master of Divinity from The Iliff School of Theology in Denver, CO, and a Doctor of Ministry in Spiritual Direction from The Graduate Theological Foundation in Donaldson, IN. He has published and lectures on the integration of spirituality and sexuality.

Pat Ryan is Associate Dean for Academics, Senior Academic Advisor and longtime faculty member who has taught and advised at SNL for nineteen years. He earned a Master’s degree in Sociology from Illinois Institute of Technology, and a Master’s in Education from St. Mary's College, Winona.

Suzanne Ryan earned her M.S. in Sociology at Illinois Institute of Technology. She is Chair of the English department at Immaculate Heart of Mary High School and has been involved with SNL since its inception.

Peggy St. John
is an Academic Advisor at SNL. She earned a B.A. at Michigan State University and an M.A. in Counseling at Wayne State University, and is a graduate of the Liberation Psychology Training Center. She is founder and President of Above and Beyond Life Coaching and Consulting.

R. Craig Sautter received an M.A. in Philosophy from the University of Wisconsin – Madison and been published in Teaching Philosophy. He is a poet, editor, publisher, and author of several books, including Inside the Wigwam: Chicago Presidential Elections 1960-1996. With his brother, a Washington D.C. attorney, he runs Sautter Communications, Political Media and Strategy, which creates television and radio campaigns for mayoral, legislative, Congressional, Senate and Gubernatorial candidates. He has taught at DePaul since 1981 and was presented SNL’s 1998 "Lifelong Learning Award."

J. Warren Scheideman is an author specializing in English and American literary history. He graduated in June 1991 through SNL at DePaul University with a professional concentration in Teaching Literary History for Adults.

Anne Schultz graduated from the Royal Academy of Music in London with an LRAM in piano and was a performing pianist for almost twenty years. She is founder and director of the Institute for the Imagination. She has taught at several area universities and also works for the Chicago Teachers Center, directing school-based programs and delivering services in writing to the Chicago Public Schools. She has published essays on the subject of writing and two books of poetry.

Rebecca Schwan holds a B.A. from Dominican University and M.M. from Northern Illinois University, where she is currently pursuing an Ed.D. She has also taught at Aurora University, Northern Illinois University and the Chicago Musical College of Roosevelt University. Her interests are in developing curricula and teaching courses which promote pluralism and tolerance.

David Shallenberger is a member of the SNL Resident Faculty. He earned his Ph.D in Human and Organizational Systems at the Fielding Institute and has strong professional and personal interests in minority and multicultural issues and in the exploration of our most basic personal and societal values and assumptions about identity and relationship.

Robert E. Shapiro is a practicing attorney. Before and while attending law school, he studies political philosophy and American political thought at Harvard University, the University of Toronto, Canada, and the University of Chicago. His master’s thesis was on Plato’s dialogue, the Gorgias, and he has published articles on issues in American politics and the American legal system. While practicing law, he has continued his studies in political philosophy, the history of common law, the founding of America and the American Civil War.

David Sikich is a 28 year veteran of motion picture distribution, exhibition and marketing. He began his career in 1973 managing movie theatres, spent 17 years in distribution, including 10 years running the Chicago office for Orion Pictures, and has spent the last 8 years repping and marketing independent films, including the acclaimed HOOP DREAMS.

David Simpson earned his Ph.D. in English and Comparative Literature from Columbia University. His primary interests are literary and intellectual history, including classical, medieval, and Renaissance studies. He has taught at Northwestern and Columbia Universities.

Cynthia Sims has an M.S. in Public Service Managment from DePaul, an M.A. in Social Work, and is a doctoral candidate in Adult Continuing Education at Northern Illinois University. She has taught Introduction to Sociology and Marriage & Family at Moraine Valley Community College and Waubonsee Community College, and she served as an Academic Advisor for SNL. She is currently Coordinator of the Center for Service Learning at College of DuPage.

Nancy Singer is a Certified Financial Planner and retired Bank President.

Michael Skelley has been a resident faculty member since 1993. He has a master's degree in Biblical Studies (Catholic U., 1979), a doctoral degree in Religious Studies (Boston College, 1987) and a master's degree in Organization Development (Loyola U. Chicago, 1993). One of his long-time interests has been exploring how we can develop and integrate spirituality in the contemporary workplace. In 2001-2002, he will hold DePaul University's Wicklander Chair of Ethics.

Kenn Skorupa has been on staff at SNL since 1990 and is currently the Advising Development Coordinator and Distance Learning Program Advisor at the college. He has a Masters in Education from Loyola and a Bachelor of Arts from UIC in Psychology. Kenn has taught at SNL since 1992 and currently teaches Learning Assessment Seminar, Male Identity in Transition online, Shaping Positive Human Behavior and Using Your Computer Creatively at SNL. Kenn serves a Professional Advisor for students in areas related to Psychology and social services, business management, computing and education.

Don Sorsa started developing online courses in the mid 1990’s, and his multimedia program for ESL students is used in universities around the world. His current work is building technology-enhanced learning environments, and exploring the individual and social factors that surround adult learning. His new courses at SNL explore the relationship between technologies and cultures. He is completing a Ph.D. in Learning Sciences at Northwestern University,

Ann Folwell Stanford is an Associate Professor and has been a member of the Resident Faculty for 12 years. She has published articles on multi-ethnic women's literature as well as literature and medicine. She has a Ph.D. in English from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She has taken groups of students to El Salvador since 1994.

John Starrs is an actor, storyteller and poet. He has appeared at the Goodman Theatre, Body Politic, Wisdom Bridge and the Lunar Caberet, among others. He is currently hosting a poetry venue at the Higher Ground Café and is touring in I Contradict Myself?, and with readings of Whitman’s and Ginsberg’s poetry.

David Steiger received a B.A. in Political Science and a Juris Doctor from Indiana University. He has been a licensed attorney for eleven years, and employed for the last several years by a multinational financial services corporation. He is an active member of the Chicago Council on Foreign Relations, and has taught courses on issues surrounding globalization at SNL since 1999.

Elizabeth-Anne Stewart holds a joint appointment with University Ministry and the Department of Religious Studies at DePaul. The author of more than 80 articles on spirituality and a regular contributor to Living Faith, Stewart gives presentations and retreats across the country and internationally. She has published three collections of poetry as well as two books of original research on the use of imagery in healing contexts. From 1985-1992, Stewart served as poetry consultant to the International Commission on English in the Liturgy’s subcommittee on the liturgical psalter.

Patricia Stifter received her D.D.S. from the University of Illinois School of Dentistry. She has been an instructor of Biological Sciences at several colleges in the Chicago area.

Barbara Stodola is an arts educator, administrator, and curator of exhibits. For the past fifteen years she has been executive director of the John G. Blank Center for the Arts, an arts center housed in the historic old library of Michigan City, Indiana. She has curated over 300 exhibits of contemporary paintings, sculpture, photography and multimedia installations, and she has directed a juried fine arts exhibit of work from Indiana. Stodola holds an M.A. in Humanities for the University of Chicago, with a concentration in art history and aesthetics, and a B.S. in Journalism from Marquette University. She has taught at various area colleges and universities.

Charles F. Stone is an attorney in private practice, specializing in special education, employment and personal injury law. He has been active in bar association and civic organizations that promote and enforce the rights of people with disabilities. Previously, he was an award-winning reporter with daily newspapers in Texas and Illinois. He earned his J.D. in 1984 from the University of Illinois. He has taught Reasoning since 1992.

Tom Strzycki has been in the printing industry for 23 years, and in sales for 29 years. He earned his B.A. through SNL and his MBA from Northern Illinois University. He earned an M.S. in Adult Continuing Education from Northern Illinois. He is also an adjunct faculty member at Columbia College in Park City, Illinois, and the College of DuPage. He is Illinois admissions representative for Johnson & Wales University in Rhode Island.

Thomas H. Sullivan is Director of the Writing Center and a professor of English at Moraine Valley Community College. He has an M.A. from the University of Iowa and an M.F.A. in Poetry from Wichita State University and a certificate in Artificial Intelligence from DePaul. He has written programs in several computer languages and enjoys teaching on the Internet.

Patricia Szczerba worked for a non-profit organization affiliated with the United Nations in New York City for nine years where she worked with UN staff and sat on several UN/NGO committees. She is Editor of Global Issues for The New York Times Almanac where she writes on international health, world population, international organizations and other related topics. She conducts Internet trainings and engaged learning courses for Chicago public school teachers and private schools. She wrote Netscape Communicator Made Easy Training Manual. She is SNL’s representative to the United Nations.

T
John M. Tallarovic
works as an Aerospace Engineer for the Federal Aviation Administration where he manages certification programs for new and modified gas turbine engines and airplanes.  Before joining the FAA, he was a commissioned officer in the United States Air Force.  He holds a Masters of Science Degree in Aeronautical Engineering, specializing in Hypersonic Aerodynamics, Air-breathing Propulsion, and wind tunnel testing, is a licensed Professional Engineer, and the author of several technical papers and reports.

Brother Wayne R. Teasdale earned a Ph.D. in Theology from Fordham University and an M.A. in Philosophy from St. Joseph College. He is an Adjunct Faculty Member of the Catholic Theological Union and Department of Religious Studies at DePaul. He is a member of the Board of Trustees for the Parliament of the World’s Religions, the Bede Griffiths International Trust, and Monastic Interreligious Dialogue.

Susan Timm has a M.A. in communication studies and an Ed.D. in education for business. She has conducted numerous communication-related workshops in business and industry. Her current research and writing focuses on business, communication, diversity, and retention.

Frank Tobolski is the Principal at FTobolski Marketing/JFT Studios, a marketing research and communications firm. He is also senior advisor to a consultant division of a multinational company. He earned his M.S. and B.S. in Industrial/Social Psychology from Illinois Institute of Technology. He has taught marketing at the Institute for Management, Illinois Benedictine College, and the DePaul M.B.A. program.

Derise Tolliver, a licensed psychologist, is a member of the SNL Resident Faculty. She earned her doctorate from Duke University. Her professional and research interests include African-centered psychology, spirituality, cultural issues in psychology and education, and HIV/AIDS.

Phyllis A. Walden
is Dean of Continuing Education and Community Services at Morton College. Previously a resident faculty member at SNL, she has extensive experience teaching adults in non-traditional degree programs. She has taught journal writing courses and workshops for many years, and has published and presented nationally on the use of learning journals.

Elizabeth Wall earned a Master of Science degree from the Committee on Human Nutrition at the University of Chicago. She is a Nutrition Specialist at the University of Chicago Hospitals.

Phyllis M. Wallace holds an M.S.Ed. in Health Education and Research from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale and a B.A. in Psychology from University of Rhode Island. She is a community health educator and health researcher who has worked in the areas of breast cancer, adolescent drug prevention and safety, and H.I.V. Additionally, she has taught biology, physics and chemistry for Project Upward Bound in southern Illinois.

Kumiko Watanuki holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Mundelein College, an M.A. in Organizational Development from Loyola University, and an M.A. in Social Anthropology from S.O.A.S., University of London. She has more than twenty years experience in the disciplines of executive training, organizational development, intercultural communications and human resources training and development.

Phillipe Weiss practices governmental law at Klein, Thorpe and Jenkins, Ltd. in Chicago and holds a J.D. with a concentration in International Law from Boston University School of Law. He completed his undergraduate work at the University of Michigan Honors College and University of Edinburgh in Political Science with a concentration in Middle East Affairs.

Fred Wellisch is a member of the SNL Resident Faculty. He has been a criminal defense lawyer, and taught in the Chicago Public Schools and at the University of Chicago Laboratory Schools. He received his B.A. and M.A. from the University of Chicago in 1969 and 1973 respectively and his J.D. from the John Marshall Law School in 1984. He is also a professional actor and has appeared at various Chicago theaters including Steppenwolf, Apple Tree and Court.

John Willets is a member of the SNL Resident Faculty. He earned a Ph.D. in Education Psychology and a M.Ed. in Counseling Psychology at the University of Illinois. His agenda of praxis finds its expression in community and group learning process where learning is fundamental to community action.

Barbara J. Williams has an A.M. in social sciences from the University of Chicago and B.A. from Indiana University. She is a doctoral student in history at the University of Chicago. Her specialization is African history. She has taught English as a second language in Brazil and Columbia College and taught college writing at Chicago State University.

Ronald M. Willis is Counsel and Manager for the Chicago and Central States Joint Board, UNITE, a labor organization. He is on the Board of Directors of the Amalgamated Bank of Chicago and is an Advisory Committee Member of the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago. He received a J.D. from Northwestern University School of Law.

Jason Lawton Winslade has been teaching in the English and Religion departments of DePaul University for the last five years. He is completing his PhD in the Performance Studies department of Northwestern University. He has published articles in scholarly journals and anthologies about occultism, genre television, and audience participation, and has performed and directed ritual performances in America and Europe.

Gregory Witkowski earned a Masters degree in Administration from DePaul University and a Masters in Sociology- Corrections from Southern Illinois University. Prior to his retirement, he served as Deputy Director o f the U.S. Probation-Parole Office for the Northern District of Illinois. Currently, he is employed as security consultant for B.K.M., Ltd.

Ivan A. Wolfson is a licensed clinical psychologist, with a diversity of clinical experience which includes working with the abused/neglected, developmentally disabled, dual diagnosed, forensic, incarcerated, college, inpatient and outpatient populations. He has Diplomat status in the specialty area of Forensic Clinical Psychology.

Dee Parmer Woodtor is a writer and independent researcher. She earned a Ph.D. in Political Science with a specialization in African politics from Northwestern University. She teaches genealogy and writes feature articles on African and African-American culture from Afrique magazine. Her first children’s book, Big Meeting, was published in 1996. Woodtor also developed the original manuscript for A Pace Called Down Home: An African American Guide to Genealogy and Historical Identity.

Pam Wright is an independent marketing consultant with extensive experience in the field. She was formerly a Marketing Manager for Sears and an Account Supervisor for a direct response advertising agency. She has an M.B.A. degree and has also taught at Western Illinois University.

Geri Lynn Yanow
has a B.A. in Liberal Arts from University of Illinois at Chicago and an M.A. in English Literature from New York University. She has traveled extensively and formerly taught for more than 20 years in the Chicago Public Schools. She earned her J.D. from I.I.T./Chicago Kent Law School in 1988 and now works as a trial attorney for the City of Chicago specializing in civil rights defense. She has taught at SNL since 1994.

Wendy Yanow is a Faculty Development Facilitator with DeVry Institute of Technology in Chicago. She has a B.A. in Music from University of Illinois at Chicago and an M.S. in Adult Education from National Louis University.

Donna Younger is Dean of Continuing Studies at Oakton Community College. She holds B.A. and M.A.T. degrees in English and an Ed.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from University of Memphis. Though American by birth, she is Southern by the grace of God.

Daniel Yutzy is a licensed Clinical Social Worker specializing in family therapy. He has a private practice in Evanston providing psychotherapy to individuals, couples, and families. He completed graduate work at Rutgers University and postgraduate training at The Institute for the Family and The Family Therapy Training Program of Philadelphia.
